Gayle Oberacker

Gayle Oberacker is currently a Music Education major at West Virginia University with a voice emphasis. She is experienced in multiple genres of vocal music such as contemporary, classical, jazz, and musical theatre, and has studied under several successful performers over the years.

In high school, Gayle was very active in the vocal and instrumental aspects of her music department. She was a four-year member of the marching and concert bands, landing the position of drum major her senior year. She was also a three-year member of the jazz band in which she played lead alto saxophone and was featured as a vocal soloist. This led to back-to-back “Outstanding Soloist” wins at the Marshall Jazz Festival in 2019 and 2020. Gayle excelled in her musical theatre program as well, playing a variety of diverse roles; most notably, Fiona in “Shrek the Musical”. She also was a four-year member of her school’s auditioned choir and was accepted into West Virginia’s Governor’s School for the Arts in 2018.

During her time here at WVU, Gayle has participated in Mountaineer Singers and Chamber Singers. Her time with Chamber Singers has granted her multiple performance opportunities such as singing with the West Virginia Symphony Chorus for Mozart’s Requiem, participating in Frostburg University’s choir festival, and a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Gayle also was featured as a soloist in the oratorio, ‘Considering Matthew Shepard’ with the Chamber Singers. Gayle has participated in the NATS several times and is looking forward to competing in the future as well. She is also a member of the National Association for Music Education and holds an officer position for the American Choral Directors Association here at WVU.

Gayle has spent the last two summers teaching voice lessons out of her own studio to children of all ages and has taught at a handful of local music camps as well. She is very passionate about teaching young singers and looks forward to sharing her love of music with the students of the Community Music Program.
