WVU Creative Arts Center,
Morgantown, WV

Viola Bootcamp features daily lessons, master classes, technique classes, viola ensemble, ample practice time, lectures, performances, bluegrass/olde time jam session, movie night, finale recital, and more! Open to high school juniors and up, undergraduates, graduate students, adult amateurs, teachers, professionals, and those wanting to learn more about the viola. Younger students will be considered with permission from the director.

When is arrival and departure?
For most participants who need on campus housing, arrival is on June 17 between 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the dorms. Camp activities do not officially begin until June 18 (Monday) morning at 9:00am. The final concert is usually scheduled to be 2:00pm on the final day (Thursday, June 21). Check-out from the dorms is 12:00pm, before the final concert.

Is the focus on solo playing, ensemble playing, instruction, or all of these?
ALL of these. Students will have daily private lessons (30 minutes), practice time, viola ensemble, technique class, master class, lectures, social activities (including a bluegrass jam session, dessert night, and movie night), and more.

What playing level is appropriate? Do you need an audition/placement recording, video, or note from a teacher?
There will be every playing level represented at the camp, from beginners to the most advanced. We usually have an equal mix from each category of high school, undergraduate, graduate, and adult amateurs (and even a professionals sometimes). No audition or note is required. We want to encourage a true community of violists from everywhere.
