New Graduate Student Orientation
- All new graduate students in the School of Music are required to attend the New Graduate Student in Music Orientation. Our orientation will start at 9:00 am on Wednesday, August 10 and will take place in the CAC Bloch Hall. In this meeting I’ll describe the degree requirements and share resources that will be useful during your program.

- All new graduate students are required to take the entrance exam in Music Theory. New students in Music Education are not required to take this exam; however, it is strongly recommended that you do so.

If the course MUSC 561 Graduate Theory Review is recommended for you as a result of your exam, please be aware that this course is currently offered only in the fall semesters and does not count toward your degree. - All incoming master’s degree students must take a piano proficiency exam and address deficiencies before continuing in the degree program. You may schedule your piano proficiency directly with Dr. Lucy Mauro; contact her at Lucy.Mauro@mail.wvu.edu. This requirement must be met by the end of your first semester of study, December 2023. - For Music Education students, specific information about entrance exams, and piano and voice proficiencies will be sent in a follow-up email.
