2020 Honor Orchestra Music

The 2020 West Virginia University High School String Honors Orchestra
February 20-22, 2020
Dr. Mitchell Arnold, Conductor

2020 Honor Orchestra Music

Welcome to the 2020 Honor Orchestra page.  By following the links below you can find the music for our concert.

The Honor Orchestra will perform “Hoe Down” from Aaron Copland’s Ballet, Rodeo, a suite from Falla’s ballet, El Amor Brujo, including the famous “Ritual Fire Dance,” and the Theme from E.T. by John Williams.  We will be joined by members of the WVU Symphony Orchestra’s woodwind, brass, and percussion sections for Theme from E.T. and “Hoe Down.”

The last page or pages of each download contain section soli which will be rehearsed and led in performance by our faculty.

Note: when parts are divisi students should prepare both parts as we do not know where they will sit until after auditions on the first day.

Violinists: First Violinists prepare the top line of the section duet, seconds, the bottom.

Cellists: You should prepare all the parts.  The “break” part is optional.

For the auditions, our faculty will choose passages from the music.  Students will find out the chosen passages at their audition.  Students interested in auditioning for principal positions should prepare designated “solo” passages.

Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Arnold at if you have any questions.

Thank you.
