High School Choral Festival
February 17, 2018
The inaugural WVU High School Choral Festival will take place on Saturday, February 20 at the WVU Creative Arts Center, Morgantown, West Virginia.
Choristers will participate in a festival choir under the direction of Eric Whitacre, the repertoire for which will be “Sleep” and “The Seal Lullaby”. Upon registration, the scores will be mailed to the school giving the students ample time to prepare this music before the event.
In addition to the massed choir, three school choirs will be chosen to work individually with Mr. Whitacre on a work by the composer. These works will then be performed in the final concert prior to the massed choir performance. If you are interested in applying for this opportunity for your choir, please contact WVU Director of Choral Activities, Kym Scott for additional information.
The cost for the festival will be $35 per student. This cost includes scores, a festival bag including a t-shirt, pencil, and water, as well as lunch on the day. Registration fees are to be paid during registration on the day of the festival. The cost for directors/chaperones will be $20 per person and includes lunch and a t-shirt.
Directors and chaperones are invited to observe all sessions throughout the day and will be provided with a special lunch session with WVU music faculty who will be available to answer any questions regarding music at WVU.
The festival will begin with registration at 9am and conclude at approximately 5:15pm.
There has been a great deal of excitement in the lead up to this event so I encourage you to register early to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to seeing you in Morgantown in February.
