Visiting Assistant Professor - Guitar, Jazz Studies
Dennis Posey is a guitarist and educator who hails from Wheeling, WV. He
graduated with a Masters of Music in Jazz Pedagogy at West Virginia University,
where he also completed his Bachelors of Music in Music Education.
While working on his masters,
he held a position as Adjunct Director of the Alderson Broaddus Jazz Ensemble.
Since then, John has held a number of roles as a music educator in West
Virginia. He was brought on as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Jazz at WVU
in 2015-16, served as an Instrumental Music Instructor for the WV Governor’s
School of the Arts at West Virginia Wesleyan College in the summers of 2015 and
2016, and had the opportunity to direct the WVU Bluegrass Ensemble in 2017-18.
John has worked as a freelance musician and private guitar instructor in northern West Virginia since 2008. In 2015, he collaborated with Alex Heflin on a jazz recording entitled So Long, Mario (under the band name 4 on 6.) Currently, he performs throughout the region with fellow folk, old-time, country, and bluegrass musicians.
