FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS & ADULTS

Want to learn how to write music? 
Want to develop your current composition skills? 

The WVU Summer Composition Academy will give you the opportunity to learn from WVU composition faculty. This camp will take place June 24-28, 2024 and will include individual lessons, group lessons, and a concert of music created by the students. 

Class Description
During this academy, students will receive private instruction and also attend informative seminars held daily by WVU faculty. Students should expect to work on the following topics: 

  • How to write effective melodies
  • Expanding knowledge of harmonies and harmonic progressions
  • How to deal with structure/form in composition
  • Film Music/Video Game Music Primer
  • Understanding texture in music composition
  • How to orchestrate and write effective music for the given instruments of the final composition
  • Writing for voice

FEES  $150.00 + $10.00 processing fee  $70.00 + $10.00 processing fee
SPECIAL OFFER  Both sessions for $190.00 + $10.00 processing fee
LOCATION    Canady Creative Arts Center, Evansdale Campus
PARKING  Parking Permit required for any students needing to park their car at the CCA
 $20.00 additional fee

Requirements
The Composition Academy is suitable for high school students (with beginner or advanced level of composition skills) and the only prerequisite is the ability to read music.
